As Jim indicated, parenting does this better.

If your switch fails, it's children will be identified as UNREACHABLE  
instead of DOWN. If you don't want notifications for those children,  
don't specify unreachable as a wanted notification_option. Are you  
seeing this behavior when the switch goes down?
