Device is down but it isn't

I fixed the problem by removing the check_host_alive statement from the
Host Definition section of the CFG file.

Use a check_dummy command for your host check so it always has an UP
state

It's blocking pings.

Change your host check to not ping, use some other method, or allow ping

on your server.
