nagios not notifying by email

I am having a similar type problem... I have searched around, didn't
find anything that was exactly the same. Here are my settings:

enable_notifications=1
retain_state_information=1

Notifications were working fine in our 1.x build, after I upgraded to
2.x my email, pager, etc., notifications stopped working.

Viewing my event log, I see that the notifications are actually getting
logged, however they are not being sent to the recipients. Thinking
about this more, it sounds like a linux problem not my nagios configs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
