Attach the manual of the device in question to each and every 
failure-message.

Seriously though. You can use the 'alias' field for hosts instead of, or 
together with, the host_name. The macro is $HOSTALIAS$. As for making 
suggestions to fixes, they should try the neo-cortex. It's a wonderfully 
adaptive tool based on neural-net technology and genetic programming.
