I did write a small shell script to check for different processes vie 
SNMP. It uses snmpwalk to get a processlist, and can check for more than 
one process name at a time. Should be easily modified to your needs.

I can mail that to you, but beware - I'm not a programmer, and even I 
can see lots of room for improvement there.
