Huh? How is nagios supposed to know about the specifics about the hosts
and services you want to monitor on your network and how you want to
monitor them at compile time? Also, did you run 'make install-config' to
install the sample config files and get a head start on the
configuration?

We had a very well known consulting firm with half a dozen people take
over 9 months to set up HP Openview for our network and it didn't do
half the monitoring we are able to do with a nagios install that took
just over a week and that I set up single-handedly. We currently monitor
2734 services on 1805 hosts.

Please provide specific statements then. What part of building the
object config files did you find to be time-consuming?

It's a very worthwhile app today and beats most commercially available
products hands-down.
