Nagios not UNIX Friendly?

Not that I know of, no. Nagios mixes freely between POSIX, BSD, GNU and 
ANSI C-standards. Those are generally available on free unices, but not 
necessarily on the proprietary versions (at least not without heavy 
modifications).

You could try to install a GNU system on the can you're installing to, 
but It'll probably be well invested cash to buy a new server and install 
GNU/Linux or some flavour of BSD on it. They both run just fine on a 
multitude of architectures, although gcc is a slow and horrible hog on 
alphas.
