Has anyone looked into the product by www.hyperic.com before?

This leads into the fun part where you write things yourself.  There are
tons of applications out there that will query a service and find out what
version it is.  You may want to look into nmap for such things.  Here is an
example:  (sorry for any lame text formatting this awful client may

Thank guys for all the support on this question.  I'll let the decsion
makers know that we can use Nagios granted that we share any new code
written that might help out others.
Its my understanding that they would like the ability to do the following:

- get versioing info for applications installed (aka Tomcat, Weblogic) on a
server (windows/solaris)
- graphed application response times from a user perspective (probably can
use PasTmon pastmon.sourceforge.net)

I am not sure if Nagios can do the first task for Windows.  It would be
nice to have a tool that can grab the version info on major applicatons on
windows server.
