checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 1)... (cached) no
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 2)... (cached) no
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 3)... (cached) no

After this there comes this info message box that configure wasn't
able to locate the GD, PNG and/or JPEG libraries.

So it seems to be the libgd?!

Building own packages is ok for me with dpkg-buildpackage, but
I hope that backporting will work but is not my prefered way :-)
