curious nrpe problem.

I wrote myself a little script for use with nrpe that check the memory
usage of a box. It worked great for a week.

Here's the freakshow part, though, that just became an issue:
It works fine unless I restart xinetd.
I can HUP it, no problem. But a proper stop/start of the daemon causes
"CHECK_NRPE: Response packet had invalid CRC32." But only with my
script (the only non-compiled plugin, notably). The only fix I've come
up with is to reboot (barf).

I found some talk of getting that error when the stderr data precedes
the stdout (http://article.gmane.org/gmane.network.nagios.devel/650),
but this should not be the case for me - the plugin, first, should have
no sterr output. second, if that was the case, it would be broken *all*
the time, not just after restarting xinetd.

Any ideas?
