Host Status not updating

Has someone seen a situation where the status of some hosts (about 10 or so out of three hundred)  is not updating correctly?  These hosts do not seem to be consistently the same ones, but several seem to not correctly realize that the host is actually up not down.  

I have defined the hosts very much the same way, as far as check and notification.  I have researched this quite  a bit today, without any good ideas.
