check_nrpe fails, SSL handshake error

I have more information on this problem: When I check /var/adm/messages I
find:
Network server bind failure (126: connect assign requested address) for the
process nrpe.
So it look like the nrpe daemon never gets started. Any idea who I can fix
this problem?

Do I need to have authentication turn on? I'm using ssl 0.9.7
