I dont see your point why wouldnt you want to put it as "Hostname-OS-version" 
under Hostname in the host definition? It's good enough I reckon. 

Next, if you find that $USER1$ is not exactly the most descriptive variable, 
then what variable to you suggest? I find that it's good enough too.
