Schedule downtime for a host and its services

Another possibility is that you've selected a 'Flexible' downtime period.  The Flexible downtime starts when the item with downtime marked fails, not when any of its children / services fail.

This is an issue a number of my co-workers get caught by.  I'm slowly training them ;)
