Removing NRPE Daemon

When you did the make install - did you also make sure that the  proper init script was copied and 
the new binaries were copied over the old one ?

What i think you have is two installs of nrpe located in different locations and the init script is 
calling the old one .

check the paths and locations and see what is called when you start the nrpe daemon .
