mod_rewrite for nagios?

Has anyone attempted any mod_rewrite-fu to provide nagios with cleaner
looking urls?
Changing the usual nagios.server.com/nagios/extinfo.cgi?&type=4   type url to

nagios.server.com/nagios/extinfo/perfdata/server#/

Anyone attempted this? Googling for such mod_rewrite info hasn't
yeilded anything useful.
