Actually, I thought Nagios worked in the way that Marc described.

If you have a NOC which is acknowledging alerts, actively disabling
service checks then I suppose this isn't too much of a problem.

Might be nice to see more configurability with regard to the way Nagios
works, I doubt we will see any changes into a stable version for quite a
while though.
