Thanks for the info. Did you install from the source code or the debian
packages? Are you using check_snmp?

I am running nagios on debian etch, i have installed packages

libsnmp-dev - SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) development
files
libsnmp10 - SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) library
snmp - SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) applications
snmpd - SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) agents

Thanks to all for the input, I didn't realize there were alternatives to
the check_snmp out there, I'll look into the Patrick's Plugins.

Ah, understood. I do not use the check_snmp plugin, I use Patrick proy's

snmp plugins. I misunderstood the requirements of the check_snmp plugin.
With patrick's plugins they only require the perl Net-snmp portion,
which is why I am using the CPAN version!

Umm, no. That will install perl-Net-SNMP (or some such), which is only
the perl-cruft into the net-snmp package. check_snmp is written in C,
so what you do with CPAN will have absolutely zero impact on how it
works.
