How Nagios determines who to contact.....

Hello,

 

I am having trouble getting nagios to send out contacts to the correct
group of people.

 

If a service goes down, does it only contact the contact_groups assigned
in the service definition?  Does it contact any of the contact_groups
associated with the hosts defined in the service as well?

 

 

 

define service{

        use                        generic-service

        hostgroup_name
Oracle-servers,Management-servers,Filesystem-servers,Web-servers

        service_description        /usr Free Space

        check_command              check_nrpe!check_disk!15% 5% /usr

 

 

 

For example:  I have different contact groups set up for each different
type of server (Oracle, Management, Filesystem, and Web).  When this
service fails, does nagios look at each hostgroup and get the contacts
for each, or does it only use the contact list defined under the service
definition?
