personal opinions about gentoo aside....

If you build the plugins with openssl support, then check_http has
support for https. I believe there's a FAQ about this somewhere but I
don't have the url handy. I know it creeps up in the list from time to
time so the list archives should be full of it. ./check_https

Hell, it'll even check the expire time on the ssl cert driving the
website and report back on it too.
