Problem Installing Plugins

Hey all-

I've got Nagios installed just fine, but now I'm trying to install  
the plugins. As I try to compile the plugins, it seems to get stuck  
on "checking for ICMP ping syntax..." forever.

I know that it supposedly takes a while for it to configure itself,  
but I let it sit for 60 minutes with no luck.

I've googled this with little luck so far. I'm hoping someone on the  
list has experienced this and can get some insight back to me.
