check_udp / check_udp2

Hi

I've been trying to set up checks for DNS reverse and forward lookup
zones. sometimes it happens to me that after (re)configuring a zone
the DNS server returns status SRVFAIL. I want to montitor that with
nagios.
Could anybody here succeed configuring this with the check_udp or
check_udp2 plugin? 
I've been studying RFC 1035 on how to send queries to a DNS, but I
could not find out how to do it.

Please help.
