Mmm. First poster. Crunchy.

Shouldn't be a problem given the limited information.

Ok.

Nagios will:
	- monitor anything for which a definitive state can be
determined by running a command line program or script.
	- allow you to create your own plugins to monitor anything you
like. You could monitor the temperature of your hot tub if you so
desire.
	- provides for flexible notification methods. If you don't like
the pre-set options you can easily create your own.
	- The list goes on. Try installing it, looking at the standard
plugins and the plugin developer guidelines (http://nagiosplug.sf.net),
you'll learn a lot.

Nagios will not:
	- Cook your breakfast.
	- Wash your car.
	- Create your talking paper for you.
	- The list goes on...

Perhaps the question you should be asking yourself is 'What specific
needs do I have for a monitoring system and does Nagios meet those
needs?'

Sounds pretty straightforward. I've always found that downloading and
installing programs I'm comparing goes a long way to finding out what's
good and bad about them in my environment. Asking others to do your
research is lazy. If you don't have the time to do proper testing then
you should be asking for more time if your employer expects a well
researched comparison.

No problem. I apologize if this seems rude but I've just re-read
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html.
