Problem with nagios recognizing some services

Hi

While running some service check ,I am getting error messages on the
nagios web interfaces that some services are unknown .
Such as (Task Scheduler ,Event log, Windows Time,IPSEC Services,
Security Accounts Manager), it seems that with other services that have
only one word such as (Sever, Uptime..) I am getting a result .
My question is ,is there any special naming convention on these
particular services ?
Please advise
Thanks in advance

Mohamed

I believe he is refering to the patch tracking system in sourceforge for
the official plugins , he submitted several fixes/patches last month
under the request ID: 1143849

if you are unfamiliar with where this is goto:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nagiosplug/
then click on the patches and you should see the reference ID in the
list.

Good Luck

Subject: Re: [Nagios-users] nagios gives unknown state - when monitoring
over WAN link

You can always try using NSCA with a very large timout, If you are
already using NSCA for other things on you system you may want to run a
second one on a non default port that way you can set the timeout
specifically to handle the large lag time. When using NSCA you would
basically run plugins on the remote servers and gather the outputs, then
send all the outputs at once via the send_nsca.

Make sure you adjust your timeout of whatever plugin you are using if
you are getting timeout or no data received from host in your warnings.

Also you may want to change some of the service settings to prevent the
warnings Read through the nagios Documentation on what the different
service settings do.

Hope this helps
Tony

Not sure if this is it, but when I experienced the same problem, or at
least thought I had the problem, my setup was fine, I just had the
system falsly configured to send out emails only after the check failed
for a very extended period of time, without realizing.

I assume you're using the check_icmp plugin for this.

Time to live exceeded is what you get if
1) there are routing problems, causing packets to loop indefinitely
between two nodes or two interfaces on the same node. The ttl value was
introduced specifically to prevent this.
2) you have redundant routes to a host, and the "usual" route goes down
while the secondary one is more than whatever default TTL is set on
outgoing packets. You can try increasing the ttl value on outgoing
packets using the -l flag to check_icmp. The maximum value is 255.

This is a configuration issue. It is impossible to give detailed help
without detailed error info.

i have a similar layout and i created "hosts" for each vlan where the
hos= t=20 check is just a ping of the admin interface for the switch.
if the switc= h=20 goes down, all the vlans go down too.

Subject: [Nagios-users] Hosts notifications (not services)

Hi,

I would like to use hosts contact_groups notifications and not services
contact_groups notifications.

I've defined contact_group for each host (no contact_group for
services).

But when I check the configuration, I've got a lot of warnings messages
like this one :

Warning: Service 'SMTP' on host 'myserver' has no default contact
group(s) defined!

And with this configuration, I don't receive any notifications. What
could be the problem ?

Kind regards,

David.
