Quite a lot of people. It was the main reason for the birth of the 
check_icmp plugin. Give it a try and see if it works for you. The latest 
version is at http://oss.op5.se/nagios. The official plugin release is a 
bit behind on that one. I wrote it, and the last rather large patch I 
submitted hasn't been commented on yet.
