nagios and plugins installation on AIX 5.2

Has anyone done this? I saw a few hints at it in the archive but 
definitive answer.
I got the tarball but it will not tar xvf on my AIX system (5202) and 
not on my Mac os X system either.
Is there an RPM out there that will work on AIX?
