you could create a service dependency... make all the other services dependent on the ping google.ca service....

while the documentation is a little sketchy for this stuff... i still managed to figure it out after a bit...

How would you test nagios' own connection to the internet ie ping google,
yahoo, etc, and if they all fail suppress notifications till at least one is
available
