Hi Andreas,

Actually, I think I find the problem. (I am running Nagios 1.2 since you asked)

I have only one service for that host that check SNMP uptime.
If this service does not work or does not respond, Nagios thinks that the host is down and put it in red.

I added the ping service to the same host, and up the host goes.

So I guess this "asume to be up" is really just assuming :)

Don't know about hip and cool, but you're probably better off without 
it. "Don't fix it if it ain't broken".

This can happen properly when the host starts flapping while down and 
comes out OK on the other end of the flapping. Assuming you aren't 
running 2.0 with f among your notification_options, ofcourse.
