You're preaching to the choir on that one (as we say in English). I prefer vi to editing files and I expect a lot of the initial configuration will be done by perl scripts that parse the OpenView configuration, hosts file, etc.  However, my boss is a Windows-type and has trouble using vi. Hopefully we can keep him from wanting to do too much configuration on his own. (Do you ever read 'Dilbert'?)

I'll pass along the recommendation to him about editing the config file if/when he starts pushing for a GUI. He already knows about Netways, as he was looking for commercial Nagios support when we first started looking at it. (Nothing decided yet, just a "Gedankenspiel").
