Configuring Notifications via e-mail

I have these entries in my contacts.cfg. Nagos is not sending mails as
specified in .cfg file(infact it is not sending at all)
 how to ensure that it sends mails(kind of checklist/testing)?

Define contacts and contact groups in you contacts.cfg file,

define contact{
 contact_name                   shorn
 alias                          Spencer Horn
 use                            support-email
 email                          shorn at lssi.net <mailto:shorn at lssi.net> 
 }

define contactgroup{
contactgroup_name       noc
alias                   NOC
members                 deuerle,shorn,bspradley,dpowell,nocaudioalert
}

then add line to your service, or host group

 contact_groups                 sysadmins,noc,support,support-pagers
