monitor a hostless service

If you use a dummy host, yes.

Define a host object, but give it, for example, the localhost IP. Then
create the service check which doesn't use $HOSTNAME$ or $HOSTADDRESS$
macros - it'll work.

Subject: [Nagios-users] monitor a hostless service

I think I know the answer to this, but....

Is it possible to monitor a service that doesn't have a host (without
defining a dummy host - may have to use loopback as a host
definition!)???
