nagios archives in var/archives

I had this exact same problem only it was a month or so back, and i'm
struggling to remember what caused it and how I fixed it in the end. I have
a vague recollection of it being something to do with the settings in
nagios.cfg, perhaps to do with assuming host states are up or something
like that. Perhaps if the state of the host doesn't change nothing gets
logged in the new daily log, if Nagios was to stop and restart during log
rotation?

Anyway, i'm kind of clutching at straws here, but i'm pretty sure that you
just need to play with a couple of those settings to fix it.
