strange cgi/hostextinfo behavior

I am about a month into getting nagios 1.1 set up with mysql 4.0.17 on a RH9
machine and using nagmin 2.0.6 to set things up.
Everything is working really well except that 3 (and only three) of the 50
devices I currently have configured will not take the ext host info and
display the proper icon on the statusmap.
It's a mild annoyance and not critically important, but I was wondering if
anyone else has encountered this.

Even if I delete the three culprits, restart (they disappear from map) and
recreate them - they still come up with the same icon (win40.gd2).
I've looked at the cfg files and the mysql tables for any incorrect info but
have not found anything that shouldn't be there.
Anyone??? Suggestions??
