Two instances of nagios on one machine

Depending on your setup, sure.

Currently I run two dual installs, with each machine running 1.1 in
production, and 2.0a for testing/migration purposes.  I simply have
each of them running in their own namespace, and have two aliases set
up in Apache:  http://hostname/nagios and http://hostname/nagios2

Works like a champ.  :)
