Confusion with PING and check_host-alive

The first will generate host level alert .. the second, service level alert

Ie, you can be aware that the ping time between your nagios box and your 
monitoring box is larger that xxx millisecond with the check_ping service 
.. the check-host-alive just can tell you if the host is up or down
