Remote Netware Monitoring and Security

I am just getting my feet wet with Nagios and am very impressed so
far.  In addition to monitoring remote NT and Linux servers ( secured
via ssh, for example ), I would like to remotely monitor Netware
servers.  I understand that I can use the mrtg.nlm module on the
server and poke a hole through the firewall for whatever port that
module is listening on, but that seems to open a fairly large security
risk.  What are the methods to secure/tighten up the remote monitoring
of Netware?
