Fair enough.
Did you see the pdf Installation guide that I mentioned below? If not,
take a look and see if maybe this is what you are looking for. It's
about 100 pages, not 5, but I still think it is 'simple' enough to get
you going.

If you still want to try to get Nagios running, follow the guide and
post specific questions to the list if/when you run into trouble. Like I
said, the list is a very valuable resource, and most of the folks that
subscribe are eager to help out new users, provided said users don't
insult their favorite network monitoring app. ;)
