Contact Template Not Working?

I thought I'd followed every link in the docs, but I don't remember
seeing that page.  You've proved me wrong and I'm ecstatic.  Clearly
I was in error, but now I know it *should* be possible to over-ride
inheritance.  Now rub salt into the wounds and tell me it's a
prominent link on every page about Nagios templating...

I have never had that work, and I wasn't trying to over-ride things like
host_name or contact_name.  I tried it several times, it didn't work for
me, I gave up on it.  I must have been doing something silly, but it was
so long ago I can't figure out what I might have been doing wrong.
Tomorrow, providing things are relatively quiet, I shall give it another
try.

It wouldn't occur to me as something to try, but if inheritence worked
for me then I'd expect something like that to work too because to make
it not work would require special-case handlers in the code.
