check commands problem on monitoring

When i'm monitoring logged current users, nagios says Unknown and shows
this message:

Monitoring process may not be running! and...
It appears as though Nagios is not running, so commands are temporarily
unavailable...

But when i look at the process using

ps -aex|grep nagios... I can see that nagios is running. What's the
problem here. By the way, I'll using the check_users/check_local_users
check command.
