Problem with Nagios 1.0

Does anyone know of a problem with restarting Nagios every hour? Will it 
affect monitoring? Does it keep track of when last checked, and when it 
should be checked again?

I still can't figure out why nagios is losing it's log file and thinking 
that it's not running.
