It does not compile with Ucd-snmp version 5.

| snmp proxy was desgined to prevent the lodaing and unloading of MIB files
| on every call by having a long running proxy daemon that would load MIB
| files just once.
|
| The plugin passes the parameters to the proxy which does the actual get.
|
| if you use -m"" you can get similar speedups from check_snmp but have
| to use oids and not names.

I haven't looked closely at Vladislav's snmppd SNMP proxy (yet),
but I expect that there's another interesting aspect to it. It
will likely allow you to securely and reliably do SNMP checks to
remote locations, through firewalls and across open networks, since
it uses TCP and one could (presumably) use stunnel (or equivalent)
to encrypt the traffic. It may also help with certain problems
passing UDP SNMP traffic through NAT and some firewalls.

I think it may be able to solve a number of problems that I've
been worried about.

Cheers!

John
