Notification Intervals

I have a question on the notification interval for services.

If I set the interval to 1, then have escalations for 4 and more
notifications, will it only do 1 min intervals til it hits the 3rd
notification, then the escalations override the interval to what their
settings are?(IE 5 min, then 10min). Or will the contact for the services
continue to get notifications at 1 min?
