Unpredictable service check times fixed?

Lots of options in the nagios.cfg file if I remember correctly.  After
we dumpped about 80+ services on ours we noticed that Nagios spread
initial checks way to far out of us. (some not even checking for an hour
and a half)  I believe we changed our interval to like 4.5 seconds and
things get checked a lot faster when we initially start it.
