new services

[Bryan Irvine]

I'm wondering how I can add service definitions for services that don't
exist (near as I can tell, I'm new though).  I want to add a service
definaition to check mysql, imap, openldap, sybase, and things of that
nature...is there a way to create something that says 
ping => thisport => everysooften and call it mysql?
