This happened to me before. I recompiled a new nagios bin, and it was fine.

Subject: [Nagios-users] Nagios Shuts Down Without Error

Hello. I'm trying to implement a second installation of Nagios on a remote
server. (Redhat 7.2)

I've installed and configured, run my /bin/nagios -v tests without error and
can execute nagios at the command line and as a daemon. My problem is this:

After about an hour or so of monitoring, Nagios shuts down without error.
/var/nagios.log shows no stopping of the daemon, and the /var/rw/nagios.cmd
file is still in place, as is nagios.lock.

I can log out of my SSH session and log back in at a later time without
killing the process.

Has anyone had this error before and/or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Joel Johnson
