strategic question: MySQL vs. no MySQL vs. RR DTool

I use a combination nagios, mysql, postgresql, rrdtool, a custom trouble
ticketing system, and opennms to get all my monitoring done.  I guess it
just comes down to "whats the right tool for the job", and how do I make
them all work together.
