Measuring Latency

Im trying to measure latency on my network. My problem is that, ping as
a measurement tool is extremely inaccurate. Due to the fact that a
system sees a ping as a relatively low priority, it does not always get
handled as it should. I'm looking for a way to measure latency with
accuracy in the microseconds range, Any Ideas?

Does anyone have a plugin or suggestion for this?
