As the other already said: CVS is an old dog with no new tricks.

SVN would be the best alternative beside gitting directly ;) You might
have git guys who are branching/forking/merging/pulling and all those
lovely things and you have Ton and Andreas you might control the git
side of community patching and pulling/pushing back to the SVN.


Less words: +1 for Core in SVN
