GWT interface

Hi everybody,

thanks for the nice thread about a Nagios webinterface. First off all, yes I am implementing a Nagios web interface in Java on the server side. On the one hand since I am a system administrator myself I know that system administrators like any solution as long it is slim, understandable and scripted. On the other hand I am using Nagios in an enterprise environment where Nagios meets enterprise needs. Some really important needs such as stability and scalability are fullfilled by Nagios through advanced concepts e.g. like distributed monitoring, some others are not. In my opinion the most urgent one is a full featured graphical user interface e.g. a webinterface. Why? Because I maintain a large Nagios infrastructure for different departments of our enterprise. This means not that I administrate host and service checks for other departments but provide Nagios infrastructure to others to do
that. In such a scenario I have some important demands to a Nagios GUI which are not full
filled by the standard webinterface, such as authorization and authentication. That is why besides other causes after a good deal of thought I decided to implement Nicaragua in Java with Servlets and JSP.

Nicaragua is a Sourceforge project, so the necessary components for project development are in place. I would like to see somebody joining the Nicaragua team (post to this list). It is quite open to everybody, also to Java beginners. Once I have a running version of Nicaragua I will post on this mailing list again. This will be at an early stage of development called a technology demo.

Thanks for your interest.

Tobias
