Questions such as this should be sent to nagios-users. You need to say
1 what version of nagios
2 what version of plugin that is 'not working' (run the plugin from the
command line with the -V option and post the output)
3 what you mean by 'not working'
Nagios monitors remote hosts quite effectively by
1 probing tcp services by connecting to the server ports of remote hosts
and checking that the server response is what is expected
2 using the check_ping plugin to find out if the remote host is
reachable
3 running commands or plugins by various methods (eg ssh) on remote
hosts.
